Baker Tilley San Francisco and Silicon Valley

Same firm. Smarter footprint. Baker Tilly, one of the largest fully integrated professional services firms headquartered in the Western US, chose to have no assigned private offices in its workplace, including for firm partners. With even the C-suite sitting in open workstations, One Workplace worked closely with NBBJ to support every employee with a variety of spaces designed around how they actually work.

Hal Breier
Account Executive
Moving from traditional accounting-firm design to an open plan and free-address model, One Workplace partnered with NBBJ to design a workstation and ancillary standards program that could scale across the firm's growing footprint, including its San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices.
The Silicon Valley office, a 21,000 SF Class A build-out by DPR Construction at Santana Row in San Jose, anchors the program around a custom interconnecting stair, structural steel, architectural metal, custom millwork and integrated lighting woven together as both a design statement and a literal connector between floors.
This approach to standardization allows greater flexibility in the workplace while reducing the friction of inconsistency. As people move between offices, they carry the same continuity of spaces, technology and amenities with them — turning every location into a version of home base.
"NBBJ's workplace initiative had a far bigger impact than leadership originally anticipated, both in terms of the bottom line and people." — Wade McIntyre, Real Estate Management, Baker Tilly (formerly Moss Adams) $50M+ in occupancy savings 285,000 SF total portfolio impact 41% improvement in space efficiency 21% portfolio reduction, avoiding a 140,000 SF expansion
