Global architecture, engineering and design firm HOK relocated their Seattle studio into the classic 1960 IBM building, and designed the space to celebrate the beauty and energy of the Pacific Northwest while demonstrating HOK’s commitment to in-person collaboration and mentorship. Our One Workplace team and and colleagues at Porter combined new workplace solutions with existing furniture in the new environment to support this exciting new chapter.
Showing off design capabilities isn't a challenge with the HOK in-house talent, from interior architecture, materials and finishes to custom designed millwork and art, the space embraces the architecture of the 1960s landmark. Exposed waffle-slab ceilings showcase the elegant structural design and concrete floors left in their original condition honor the building’s history and helped minimize the carbon footprint of this LEED Gold aspiring project.
The new Seattle office juxtaposes HOK's rigor and architectural discipline with the natural beauty and character of the Pacific Northwest; prioritizing views of downtown Seattle and a welcoming, engaging entry. The project features design elements that evoke the waves of the Puget Sound and a digitally designed mural that was hand-painted by the entire office.
