SJSU Spartan Village on the Paseo

San Jose State University's brilliant adaptive reuse project transforms a downtown hotel into student housing for nearly 700, includes affordable units, bringing Spartans into San Jose's urban core helping to revitalize the city. Project dream team partners on the sustainably focused design build were developer Throckmorton Partners, Build Group contractor, and Multi Studio designer, with furniture by One Workplace and dining resources by Compass Group.

In transitioning from a high-end hotel to student housing cost effectively, the project maintains many high-end finishes, and the hospitality and public spaces effectively evolved into welcoming student resources. The redesign also repurposed former conference spaces and the sky bridge into collaboration areas, a training room, a tv/game room and more.
Hotel rooms were converted to over 250 residential units with accessibility upgrades and new furniture from our team. We also furnished the new Manager Suite, open and enclosed offices, collaboration areas, huddle spaces and a variety of study nooks.
Light filled spaces, warm wood materials, plenty of choices in study and dining spaces, comfortable furnishings and an accessible downtown location make SJSU's Spartan Village on the Paseo truly 'student housing extraordinaire'.
